Three 5-minute ways to use furikake

Furikake is the Japanese seasoning traditionally sprinkled over a bowl of rice. Ours is made with hand-harvested Australian seaweed, and it's vegan. Here are three five-minute ways we use it at home in Flinders.

1. The classic rice bowl

Warm steamed rice, a drizzle of soy or a little butter, and a generous spoonful of furikake. That's it. Add a soft egg if you're hungry.

2. Furikake avocado toast

Smash avocado on toasted sourdough, squeeze over some lemon, and finish with furikake instead of salt and pepper.

3. Crunchy roast vegetables

Toss pumpkin, carrots or potatoes in oil and roast until golden. Sprinkle furikake over them straight out of the oven so the sesame stays crunchy.

What chefs say

Frank Berardi, head chef at The Commons in Melbourne, says: "Loving this full flavour product to sprinkle onto salmon, noodle salads, and even poached eggs. Has the perfect level of seasoning to add a nice depth to any dish. It looks great too!"
